Insert Here 2019/20: A Digital Archive and Online Gallery Space for emerging artists in Leeds, U.K.

Insert Here is a digital archive and online gallery space for emerging artists in Leeds. Across all creative disciplines, artists will have the opportunity to insert their creative practice into the archive establishing a living document of the talent within the city. From this archive, a selection of artists will be displayed on the ‘Gallery’ space every month, highlighting important local and social issues, with an annual exhibition taking place in various locations, making use of the latest virtual technologies.

As a visual-communicative tool, Instagram will be the platform for this archive, with the tagged feed housing the archive and the main feed housing the gallery. Anyone will be able to insert their practice by tagging @insertherearchive and using #inserthere in their posts. Free to decide how best to showcase their work, artists will able to tag photographs and videos of their practice, alongside a descriptive biography and explanation, including links to their own profiles.

The aim of this project is to highlight the important and diverse artistic works being developed within Leeds, using new digital tools and social media spaces to share this talent, without imparting costs on ourselves, the artists or the viewers. This is also to challenge traditional pathways to engage audiences, which rely heavily on institutionalised spaces with limited access and financial constraints.

Graft Collaborative CIC is foremost a collective of artists with the desire to help other artists express themselves; Insert Here exemplifies this core belief, giving opportunities to the many not just the few making use of every tool available to us.
